Easterly CARBONDALE Thomas Arnold East- erly, 98, died peacefully Oct. 14, 2018, in Brookdale Long Term Care facility, Overland Park, Kansas. Tom was born March 12, 1920, in Carbondale, to lov- ing parents, Charles and Madge (Davis) Easterly. He was a graduate of Carbondale Community High School and subsequently attended Southern Illinois University and Sangamon State College.

While in high school and col- lege, he participated in many activities including serv- ing as the student manager to various sports teams and serving on the school newspaper staffs. He especially enjoyed his lifetime love of golf and was a winner of many tournaments at the school, club and state levels over the decades. His golf accomplishments included shooting several holes-in-one and shooting below his age on countless occasions. As a member of the he proudly served in the U.S. Army during most of World War II.

His service included assignments in England and in the Theater. He earned the rank of Staff Sergeant while serving as the administrative spe- cialists for various medical units. His family delighted in hearing and reading about his war experiences and perspectives. Upon his release from service at the end of World War II, he took over as the manager of the family paint, wall- paper, and toy store. After many years with the store, Tom transitioned into a career of government service.

First, he served as the City of Building and Zoning administrator. He then subsequently moved to Springfield, where he accepted a position as a staff member on the Senate Transportation Committee. During this time, Tom was particularly pleased to be part of helping develop many Chicago area transportation network solutions. He culminated his career with an assignment to the Illinois Department of Transportation. His government service gave him the opportunity to put into practice his lifelong passion for serving and helping people.

He also enjoyed mem- berships with multiple civic organizations including time spent as the leader of Elks and Rotary club. Upon formal retirement from government service, Tom and his wife Billie fulfilled their dream by moving to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. While there, they en- joyed a robust social life, the natural beauty of the area, and the multiple golf courses. In Arkansas, Tom was also able to continue serving others by his time spent serving on numerous boards and commissions at the local and state levels. Because of his civic involvement in Arkansas, he received the prestigious Arkansas Policy recognition as the Hero of final move was to Overland Park, Kansas, to be closer to family, especially his son, Bruce, and daugh- ter-in-law, Kathy.

For the last few years, he has lived at Overland Brookdale facility and continued his love of golf by joining the Kansas City Singles Golf As- sociation. Both the golf group and the Brookdale com- munity residents became like extended family to Tom as he dearly loved their friendship and shared experiences. Tom is predeceased by his wife, Billie Roberta (Grin- dle) Easterly; parents, Charles and Madge; and his son Warren. Survivors include his children, Thomas (Jan), Glenn (Valerie), Scott (Bill), Jane Selvaggio (Pat), and Bruce (Kathy). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Whittenberg CHESTER Dr. James M. Whitten- berg, M.D., 79, of Chester, passed away at 6:32 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2018 at Memo- rial Hospital in Chester.

He was born to the late Thomas Layman and Bes- sie Mamie (nee Curtis) Whittenberg on Jan. 6, 1939, in Libertyville. He married Wilma Derringer on Nov. 7, 1979, in Wine Hill; she survives. James had worked as a medical doctor in private prac- tice from 1967 to 1987 and then as urgent care director at Carbondale Clinic from 1987 to 2001.

He was a member of First Baptist Church in Chester, Illinois. He was also a member of the Chester Country Club, VFW Post 3553, American Legion Post 487 and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. He was one of the organizational members of the Family Practice Residency Program of Southern Illinois Uni- versity School of Medicine. James was an Army veteran serving as a physician in the Vietnam War. Survivors include his wife, Wilma Whittenberg, of Chester; four children, Kim (Bryan) Cramer, of Mur- physboro, James Matthew (Shelly) Whittenberg, of Murray, Kentucky, Jennifer Dawn (Tom) Guthrie, of Grass Lake, Michigan, Kirk Alan (Christine) Whit- tenberg, of Monteray, California; six siblings, Thomas (Sandra) Whittenberg, of Phoenix, Arizona, Philip Whittenberg, of Tacoma, Washington, Karl (Susan) Whittenberg, of Lewes, Deleware, Ruth Walker, of Jer- seyville, Elizabeth Whittenberg, of Pueblo, Colorado, Karen Fraser, of El Paso, Texas; eight grandchildren, Amanda Kessler, Tony Cramer, Marisa Whittenberg, Emily Guthrie, Luke Guthrie, Bohdi Whittenberg, Remy Whittenberg and Cade Whittenberg; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Whittenberg. Funeral services will be at noon Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Chester, with Dr. Mike Fogerson officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m.

Murl Springs CARRIER MILLS Mrs. Murl Springs, age 91, of the Dallasania Community in rural Carrier Mills, passed away at 7:30 p.m.

Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. Murl was born March 9, 1927, in Saline County, to the late Irvin and Lu Wright Travelstead. On June 29, 1947, she was united in mar- riage to Charles Springs. Charles preceded her in death on Oct.

10, 2011. Murl is survived by a daughter, Donna Hearn, of Carrier Mills; a son, Tom (Pam) Springs, of Vero Beach, Florida; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchil- dren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, with the Rev.

Chuck Depriest officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Midwest Distribution Center for Disaster Relief in lieu of flowers.

Katelyn Danae Krumrey MARION Katelyn Da- nae Krumrey, 29, of Indi- anapolis and formerly of Marion, passed away on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, at her home in Indianapolis. Katelyn was born in Mar- ion on June 20, 1989, the daughter of Terra Hill and Eric Frye. A 2008 gradu- ate of Crab Orchard High School, Katelyn recently graduated from nursing school and was employed at Manor Care South in In- dianapolis as an LPN. Kate lived her life with a passion for everything she did.

Her love of music was surpassed only by the love she had for her boys. The greatest joy and light of her life was her sons, Eli (age 7) and Raziel (age 1). Her dream was to give back to others through her nursing career. She was brave and strong, never giving up the fight during her journey in this life. She will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Survivors include her parents, Don and Terra Hill of Marion, and Eric and Vicki Frye of Suwanee, Georgia; children, Eli and Raziel; Larry Lang of India- napolis; brother, Kyle Frye of Indianapolis; sister and brother-in-law, Lauren and Stephen Sullivan of Mar- ion; grandparents, Jim and Delores Krumrey of Mar- ion, Sue Frye of Marion, and Harold and Phyllis Hill of Marion; and many loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents, Earl and Mildred Krumrey; grandfather, John Frye; un- cles, Steve Frye and Jim Krumrey and cousin, Andre Suggs. Funeral services to celebrate life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at Mitchell-Hughes Fu- neral Home in Marion, with the Rev.

Denny Lingle GOREVILLE Denny Lingle, 72, of Goreville, passed away and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Oct. 19, 2018, in Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born June 30, 1946, the son of Ralph Leo and Lorene Faye (Stout) Lingle. He married Doris Hebbeler on Sept.

5, 1990, in Goreville. Denny is survived by his loving wife, Doris Lingle of Goreville; three sons, Wade, Shane and Justin Lingle; stepson, Rick McGuire; step- daughter, Janell Litton; grandchildren, Ethan, Tyler, Brett, Bruce, Dustin and Brittany Lingle; step-grand- son, Shane McGuire; great-grandchildren, Reece Mc- Guire and Dallas Litton; two brothers, Mike (Dorain) Lingle and Greg Bianca) Lingle; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Denny was a member of the Goreville Masonic Lodge for many years. He was lifetime heavy equipment oper- ator and owner of Denny Lingle Trucking.

Sunday, Oct. 21, 2018, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by her loving husband and family. Vicky was a self-em- ployed tax preparer and bookkeeper for many years. Her hobbies were quilt- ing and knitting, but most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. Vicky was a member of the Hope Chapel United Methodist Church in Colp and a former member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Marion.

Vicky was born Aug. 30, 1941, in Marion, to James L. and Lillian M. (Farner) Eveland. Vicky was united in marriage with Roger N.

Bell on June 5, 1959, in Marion. He survives of Marion. Also surviving are four daughters, Becky and Jerry Schuttek of Elkville, Cheryl Couch and Vannon Morris of Marion, Beth and John Forehand of Mount Juliet, Tennessee, Tara Bell and Bob Janowick of Johnston City; six grandchildren, Roger Schuttek and Tina Benz, Ashleigh and Daniel Swatzell, Capt. John Alexander and Lindsay Forehand, Olivia Forehand and Matthew McPeak, Veronica Palmer and Bailey Palmer; three great grandchildren, Autumn Schuttek, John Isaiah Forehand, Sybil Helen Forehand; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandy and Jerry Childers of Marion, Jill Hughes of Marion; and her beloved canine com- panion, Missy. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Wallace Hughes.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018, at Meredith-Waddell Funeral Home in Herrin, with Pastor Alan Milligan and Pastor James Heaney offici- ating. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Kramer WEST FRANKFORT Frank B. Kramer, 88, of West Frankfort, passed away at 10:55 a.m. Satur- day, Oct. 20, 2018, in West- side Care Center. Frank was born July 13, 1930, to Wildred and Ma- rie (Overman) Kramer in Petersburg, Iowa.

He was a member of St. Catholic Church, and the KC Hall in West Frankfort. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War era. He married Lois Mendel- son on Feb.

19, 1955, and she preceded him in death on May 2, 2006. He was also preceded in death by his par- ents; brother, Marvin; and sisters, Ruth and Doris. Frank is survived by sons, Jim (Diane) Kramer, John Kramer, Joe (Liz) Kramer; daughters, Eleanor Travis, Betty Cusick, Linda (Cecil) Plock, Beth (Ron) Chap- man, Doris Schlueter, Diane (Tray) Cason, Carol Shaw, Karen (Dave) Osmolski; brother, Al (Carol) Kramer; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great- great grandchild. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 25, 2018, at 10 a.m.

at St. Catholic Church, with the Rev. Eusebius Mbidoaka officiating. Burial will be in the St. Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort.
