The victory gave the Hawkeyes an 15 3 conference record and enabled them to retain a share of first place with Ohio State, which defeated Northwestern 8 73. Kevin Boyle opened the scoring for the Hawkeyes and Peth then added eight quick points, including six on a pair of three-point plays. Illinois never caught up. The Illini finally scored on a baskel by Levi Cobb with four minutes gone but the Hawkeyes maintained their adi vantage and held a commanding 37-24 lead at half time. Illinois came out firing in the secon3 half and scored the first eight pointsi them moved within five points at 39-3 But Lester took command and pumped in 12 of his points in the second half-scoring three straight baskets to lift the Hawkeyes into a 45-36 lead from which the Illini never recovered.

Mark Smith led Illinois with 12 poinfs and Rob Judson had 10. William Ma field had 12 for Iowa and Peth finished with 10. Greenwood's 31 1 help UCLA win I Los Angeles (AP) David Greenwood scored a season high 31 points to lead UCLA to a 110-88 Pacif ic-10 Conference basketball victory over Arizona Saturday, avenging the Bruins' one-point loss to the Wildcats last month. (AP) Duane Barrows, swim coach at Indiana State, was killed Saturday in a traffic accident as the team returned from a two-day road trip to Kentucky, authorities said. Barrows was 50.
