Missy Learned and Brenda Gesell each added 10 points to Benon's attack while Tracy Szczeblewski led Sesser with 10 points. Favorite Cobden, Vienna and Shawnee all posted first-round wins at the South Egyptian Conference Tournament being played at Shawnee College nearUUin. Cobden, 8:2, used 14 points from Cathy Paulson, 12 from Andee Rich and 10 from Karee Sweizer to post a 48-34 win over Century.

Carolyn Travis led the losers with 12 points. Vienna also used a balanced trio of scorers Karen Harper with 12 points, Laura Calabria with 11 and Cindy Arington with 10 to defeat Joppa 38-30. Debbie Johnson pased the losers with 14 points. Shawnee romped to a 58-26 win over Dongola as Vanessa Anderson scored 14 points, followed by Robin May with 12 and Tammy Hony with 10. Elsewhere Monday night, Nashville used Carol Brinkman's 20 points and Sara Rommelman's 16 to glide by Pinckneyville 50-23, and Coulterville ran to a 52-21 rout of Tamaroa.

Zeigler-Roylaton marched to its 12th consecutive win Monday night to highlight girls' prep basketball action in Southern Illinois. Vicki Loeh scored 16 points, Diana Fann added 12 and Angela Sandsrs scored 10 to lead the unbeaten Z-R crew to an easy 56-31 triumph over McLeansboro. Meanwhile, such highly touted teams as Eldorado, Benton and Murphysboro continued their winning ways, and the first round of the South Egyptian Conference Tournament went about as expected. Eldorado turned in one of the season's most awesome offensive displays with an 86-58 win over Metropolis. Mary Jane Duff and Lisa Whitler weeh ccorcd 20 points for Eldorado, now 11-2, while Honda Ego added 16 and Dona Broker netted 14.

Metropolis' Julie Sumner led all scorers with 29 points in the fast-paced game. Murphysboro moved to 7-2 by breezing past Sparta, 64-21. Sophomore Donna Perschbacher poured in 24 points to lead the way, followed by Joyce Lee with 13 and Bev Oliver with 10 points.
