Born in Philadelphia, the future Bishop of Quincy is 51, and is a graduate of Temple Univesity and Philadelphia Divinity School, where he earned a Th. D. degree in New Testament and a D.D. in 1964. A member of the Nashotah House faculty since 1950, he has served as Dean there for ten years.

He has been a member of the Joint Commission on Theological Education and the Conference of American Seminary Deans, with an emphasis on church renewal. the church on Oc. 20, 1949. The building is unique in that it was constructed entirely from one large yellow poplar tree, felled on the old Waldbeiser farm in Levan Township, just a few miles west of the present church site. The sen-ice, held in conjunc tion with Key 73 events, is scheduled for 2 p.m. The service has been written by the Worship and Music Committee of First Lutheran Church in Murphysboro, with the Key 73 Committee responsible for other arrangements. Participating will be the Rev. Robert Trendel, pastor of First Lutheran Church, the Rev.

William J. Boatman, pastor emeritus of First Lutheran, the Rev. Arnold Kaitschuk of Campbell Hill and the Rev. William West of De Soto who all served Mt. Joy Church at some time during its history.

The Children's Choir of First Lutheran, directed by Lynn Strothmann, will provide sped al music. A fellowship hour with refreshments will follow on the church lawn. The church operated in the rural area west of Murphys boro, near the site of the new Kinkaid Lake, before closing in the late 1960's, as many of the congregation moved to larger churches in Murphysboro. The church was dedicated on July 2, 1869, and marked its 100th anniversan' in idod. A re- dedication service was held at Church, east of Marion on Rt.

37, will begin with a 9:30 Sun day school and worship at 10:30 a.m., Sunday. Following a noon pot luck, speaker will be the Rev. Glen Odum of Herrin. The Calvary men of Carterville will sing. Pastor is the Rev.

David Presley. The Rev. Bill Lirely will speak at the 11 a.m., Sunday, service at Union Hill Christian Church, south of Carbondale. The Peace Makers Quartet will sing in the afternoon. Ava Missionary Baptist Church's pastor, the Rev.

Loyd Shelton, said that Oran Alley will speak at the morning service and The Paul Shelton Family and Wayne and Kathleen Giacomo will sing at 2 p.m. at the church. A special welcome will be given to all former pastors attending. CALVARYMEN AT NASHVILLE The Calvarymen, a gospel singing group from the area, sang Sunday night on the Grand Ole Gospel at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tenn. The group, composed of seven singers from Herrin, Marion, and Carrier Mills, appears primarily in Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana and Missouri.
