THURSDAY, MARCH 22, 1984 SOUTHERN ILLINOISAN Deaths Page Ten Vera Golio Benjamin Hopfer, 101 Gorham ex-farmer, dies Flossie O. Schaubert Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion for Flossie O. Schaubert of Route 5, Marion. Burial will be in Freedom Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mrs. Schaubert, 88, died at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 1984, in Marion Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 3, 1895, in Williamson County, to George and Emma Hale Woolard. She married Rollie Schaubert Feb. 3, 1915, in Williamson County. He died April 27, 1975. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hickory Grove Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Lowell of Route 1, Carterville, and Walter of Marion; one daughter, Mayetta Bloodworth of Route 5, Marion; three brothers, Esco and Harold Woolard, both of Route 5, Marion, and Lee Woolard of Route 1, Marion; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister. He described himself then as a relatively late riser 5:30 a.m., instead of the 4 a.m. for livestock milking of his earlier years; Farmers were far less dependant on cities in the 1920s, but he recalled Gorham as 'a big railroad town." The Hopfer house a couple of miles from the Mississippi River survived numerous storms, floods and tornado near-misses while he and his wife occupied it. It remained in the family after they moved.

Dodson Everett R. Dodson, 76, of Mill Creek, died Tuesday, March 20, 1984, at his home. Mr. Dodson was a member of the Mill Creek Baptist Church. He was born May 23, 1907, in Jefferson County to Sherman and Lilly Smith Dodson.

He married Edith Allen on June 25, 1975, in Mill Creek. Survivors Include his wife Edith, Mill Creek; two daughters, Betty June Woodworth, Valley City, Rose Mary Miller, Maryville; one step-daughter, Kay Griffith, Kenton, Ohio; two step-sons, Bill Poat of Mill Creek and James Poat of Mayfield, two sisters, Helen Jett and Eula Whcaton, both of Mill Creek; one brother, John Dodson, Mill Creek; 18 grandchildren and 9 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded In death by three brothers, Clyde, Earl and Bert, and by one sister, Sylvia. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday in the chapel of Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Beck, 84, died Tuesday, March 20, 1984, at Three Springs Lodge Nursing Home in Chester. She was born May 19, 1899, in Wine Hill, to Herman and Sophie Brock-meyer Fuhrhop. She was married Dec. 23, 1923, in Steeleville to Oscar W. Beck.

She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church at its Lady's Aid. Survivors include one daughter, Verdell Brelje, Chester; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew and one niece. She was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to St.

John's parish hall. Stanley Sharp Stanley Sharp, 69, of Washington, 111., formerly of Union County, died Tuesday, March 20, 1984, in Peoria. Survivors include his wife Margaret; three daughters; and three sisters, Carrie Boyd, Hollie Brown and Josephine Groves, all of Jonesboro. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Peoria.

7, 1915, in Illinois, to Herman and Truly Jones Anthony. Her husband, John Douglas Price, died in 1963. Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Everding of Princeton, Martha Ann Kranicki of Westchester, Phyllis Travelstead of Marion and Patricia Henson of Murphysboro; four sons, Herman Price of Villa Park, John D. Shelton died Tuesday night, March 20, 1984, in the City Care Center in Anna. She was born March 4, 1891, in Anna, to Christopher Columbus and Elizabeth Jane Settlemoir Sim-merman. She married William Wilson, who preceded her in death. She later married Travis Shelton, Oct. 18, 1973.

He died May 141977. She is survived by three sisters, Blanche Mueller and Ruth Herr of Anna and Harriet Ziegler of Dallas, Texas. Clarification U.S. Rep. Dan Crane of Danville, who won the GOP nomination for reelection, will go up against Democrat State Sen.

Roach, 47, of 11 San Josea Drive, St. Charles, formerly of Johnston City, died March 19, 1984, in St. Joseph Hospital in St.

Charles. Mr. Roach was a design draftsman. He was a member of the Methodist Church in St. Charles and a youth group counselor in the church and the YMCA.

He also was a former Boy Scout leader. He attended Southern Illinois Uni-versity-Carbondale and the Vocational Technical Institute. He was born May 14, 1936, in West Frankfort, to James David and Blanche Parmlee Roach Sr. He married Phyllis Linsey in August 1958 in Carbondale. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Amy Roach, at home; one brother, David Roach of Gillespie; and his mother, Blanche Roach of Johnston City.

His father preceded him in death. Burial was Wednesday, March 21, in St. Charles. Hal McCroy Sr. Funeral services for Hal McCroy 76, of 421 E.

Sycamore Carbondale, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Hopewell Baptist Church in Carbondale. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Jackson Funeral Home in Carbondale, and from 11:30 a.m.

until time of services Friday at the church. Mr. McCroy died at 5:35 a.m. Tuesday, March 20, 1984, in Styrest Nursing Home in Carbondale. He had been employed by the Kop-pers Plant in Carbondale for 46 years.

He was born April 7, 1907, in Hamburg, to Richard and Bessie Armstrong McCroy. He married Lil-lie Forest May 29, 1939, in Jackson, Mo. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Bessie Bowers of Chicago and Odessa Meeks of Carbondale; one son, Hal Jr. of Carbondale; 14 grandchildren and seven greatgrandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews. His parents, one daughter, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.

Paul Lester Klina Paul Lester Klina, 69, of 1606 Tay-. lor Drive, Carbondale, died at 11:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 20, 1984, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services are pending at Hoffman Funeral Home in Carbondale. Mary Calcaterra Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Herrin for Mary Calcaterra, 86, of Colp.

Burial will be in St. Andrews Cemetery at Murphysboro. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Herrin, where the rosary will be recited at 7:15 p.m. today.

Mrs. Calcaterra died at 7:16 a.m. Wednesday, March 21, 1984, in Herrin Hospital. She was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. She and her husband operated a business in Colp for many years.

She was born Oct. 12, 1897, in Murphysboro, to Pete and Rachel Ta-pella Clavenna. She was married in 1918 to Louis Calcaterra. He died Jan. 7, 1963.

Survivors include one son, John, of Colp; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one son, Angelo; one brother; and three sisters. Survivors include his wife Jean; father, Harley House, Tamaroa; one son, Bradley Allen, Pinckneyville; one daughter, Lisa Scalf and her husband Martin, now in Nurenburg, Germany; one brother, Joe House of Tamaroa; and two sisters, Mrs. Marian Miller of Sobonier and Mrs. Flossie Logan of Tamaroa.

He was also preceded in death by his mother and one brother Milas House. Lawrence W. Dawson Lawrence W. Dawson, 63, of Mul-keytown died Wednesday March 21, 1984, at Marshall Browning Hospital in Du Quoin. Mr.

Dawson was a retired coal miner. He was a member of the Mul-keytown First Christian Church and was an army veteran of World War II. He was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Zeig-ler, to George and Mary Lee McGrail Dawson. Survivors include his wife, the former Nina Mae Naylor, two sons, David Dawson of Route 1, Mulkeytown, and Larry Dawson of Mulkeytown, one daughter, Donna Harland of Route 5 Murphysboro, six grandchildren; and one sister, Virginia Clover of Royalton.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Gilbert Funeral Home in Christopher. Burial will be in Mulkeytown Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tuesdav, March 20, -19S4, in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Belleville from injuries received in an Occident at Burning Star No. 4 surface mine near Cutler on Monday. The incident reportedly followed a disagreement earlier in the evening between Sweeney and Ms. Cooper. She remained in the Jackson County jail under $40,000 bond after an initial court appearance Wednesday. Carbondale police said Sweeney, who is confined to a wheelchair, was viewing television in a lounge area of the nursing home. They charge that Ms.
