29, 1984, in the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Marion. Mason, editor George Burow dead at 74 DANVILLE (AP) A heart attack has claimed the life of well-known Mason and newspaperman George Burow, who would have celebrated his 75th birthday Monday. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday for Burow, who died about midnight Friday night while visiting his son Richard in King-sport, Tenn. Burow, a Mason since 1939, was third in command of the Northeast region, a 15-state area that included 500,000 members of the organization. A retired managing editor for the Commercial-News, Burow spent 27 years in the newspaper business.

He also was the founding editor and chairman of the editorial board of The Northern Light, a Masonic magazine. Burow was the first Danville resident to serve as Masonic deputy of the state of Illinois. At the time his John Henry Bruce MOUNDS John Henry Bruce, 57, of Mounds, formerly of Elkhart, died at 12:46 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.

Mr. Bruce was employed as a retail clerk. He was a veteran of World War II. He was born Aug. 17, 1927, in Simpson, to Clyde and Eula Mae Baker Bruce.

Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Bruce and Karla Bruce, both of Elkhart; two brothers, Leslie, of Freeport, and Larry of Mounds; and two sisters, Francis Byers of Elizabeth, and Linda Miller of Wood River. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Rice Cemetery in Elkhart. Memorial contribution may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. The Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge is in charge of local arrangements.

Ruth C. Purdy DU QUOIN Services are pending at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin for Ruth C. Purdy, 79, of 315 E. Olive Du Quoin, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in her home.

John Lane CHESTER John Lane, 74, of Chester, died today, Dec. 31, 1984, in Memorial Hospital in Chester. Funeral arrangements are pending at Schroeder Funeral Chapel in Chester. G. Donald Baue WEBSTER GROVES, Mo.

G. Donald Baue, 55, of Webster Groves, formerly of Sparta, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in his home after a long illness. Mr. Baue was a lab technician for the National Lead Co.

in St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of the First Congregation Church in Webster Groves, and the Society of Isreal Philatelists, St. Louis Chapter. He was born Jan.

3, 1929, in Sparta, to Gilbert and Lois Baue. He married Carol Dahlem. Survivors include his wife; one brother, Vernon Baue, of Sparta, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be at 10 a.m.

Wednesday at the Gerber Chapel in Webster Grove. Graveside services will be at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday at the Sauer Cemetery in Evansville. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Archie M. Ingram HERRIN Archie M. Ingram, 87, of the Ray White Care Center in Herrin, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 1984, in the center. Mr.

Ingram was a retired coal miner. He was born June 28, 1897, in Render, to William and Florence Belle Reed Ingram. He married Alice Brasel. She died Oct. 20, 1958.

Survivors include one brother, Doyle, of Hometown; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one niece, Dorothy Gerlitz, of Washington Park. "Ken Watson was a journalist in every good sense of that term," said State Journal-Register publisher John P. Clarke. "He was an extraordinarily perceptive observer of, and commentator on, Illinois politics." A Riverton native, he had been a resident of Springfield since 1964. In 1964, he married Anne Lavin, who died in 1974.

Watson was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of the University of Illinois. Surviving are one sister, Mrs. William (Virginia) Kleban, of Riverton; two brothers, Milo of Fairfield Bay, and Jack, of Springfield; one aunt; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11 a.m.

Thursday at the Staab Funeral Home, with the Rev. Arthur Koch officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Charlotte E. Jackson DU QUOIN Charlotte E.

Jackson, 66, of Route 3, Du Quoin, died at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. She was a homemaker, and a member of the First Christian Church in Du Quoin and the Du Quoin Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She was born April 3, 1918, in Du Quoin, to John and Sallie Marie Pyle Richards.

She married Harold Dean Jackson Aug. 9, 1969, in Sunfield. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Charlotte Dawson, of Mulkeytown, Sally Crain, of Du Quoin and Mary Mace, of Pueblo, seven grandchildren; one sister, lone Caldwell, of Du Quoin. She was preceded in death by her parents. Services will be at 1 p.m.

Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin. Friends may call after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. SPRINGFIELD (AP) Ken Watson, whose column for the State Journal-Register made "under the Statehouse dome" a catchphrase in Illinois political circles, is dead at the age of 59.

Watson, whose body was found at his home Sunday afternoon, had reported on politics and state government for the Journal-Register and its predecessor, the Illinois State Journal, for more than 30 years. His career in Springfield began in 1947. Despite an interruption for military service in the early 1950s, Watson reported on the activities of seven Illinois governors, from Adlai Stevenson to James Thompson. His work won him a variety of honors, including two Copley Newspapers Ring of Truth Awards. At the time of his death, his column on state politics, distributed through Copley News Service, was carried by about 25 newspapers throughout the state.

James Ervel Buckner CREAL SPRINGS James Ervel Buckner, 79, of Creal Springs, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in his home. Mr. Buckner was a retired farmer and a member of the Spring Hill Baptist Church in Palzo. He was born Aug.

18, 1905, in Johnson County, to George and Ella Dea-ton Buckner. He married Drucilla Hodder April 13, 1926, in Marion. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ervalene Emery, of Vienna; one grandson, Rick Emery, also of Vienna; one brother, Louie, of Johnston City; two sisters, Marie Hodder, of St. Joseph, and Rescil Powell, of Creal Springs. He was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, his parents and an infant son.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Whitnel Funeral Home in Vienna. Burial will be in Vienna Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

He was born June 2, 1892, in Johnson County, to Samuel Jackson and Betty Harper Choate. He married Sybil Anderson July 26, 1919, in Metropolis. She died in 1982.

Survivors include two daughters, Alice Mann and Betty Samuel, both of Carterville; one son, Paul, of Jo-liet; three sisters, Belva Vaughn, Grace Rich and Marie Howerton, all of Carterville; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, as well as his wife. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Riggin-Pillatsch Funeral Home in Carterville. Friends may call after 6 p.m. today at the funeral home. Wanda George Parker ULLIN Wanda George Parker, 92, of Ullin, died Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in Deal Nursing Home in Jackson, Mo. Mrs.

Parker was the last surviving charter member of the First Baptist Church in Ullin. She was born Aug. 22, 1892, in Cairo. She married John H. George, who preceded her in death in 1947.

She then married George Parker in 1952; he died in 1957. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence and Mary E. Parker, of Villa Ridge; two grandsons, George Dille, of Minneapolis, and Jim Dille, of Poplar Bluff, and seven greatgrandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Dille Wagner, July 27, 1983, and Wilda Sochar; and a son, Wesley George. The funeral will be at 1 p.m.

He was a retired forklift operator for the Schleutter Manufacturing in St. Louis, Mo. He was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Cahokia. He was born Aug. 28, 1918, on Kas-kaskia Island, to Charles and Rosa Shields Korando.

He married LaVera Andrews Oct. 30, 1943, in St. Louis, Mo. Survivors include his wife; one son, Roger, of Olympia, two grandchildren, Donald and Mindy Korando, also of Olympia; two brothers, Jamers and Herbert Ko- rando, both of Jacob. He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Charles, Raymond and Roy.

29, 1984, in Franklin Hospital in Benton. Mrs. Bray was a member of the Church of Christ in Christopher. She also was a member of the Monday Club. She was born Aug.

6, 1890, in Wales. She married John "Jack" Bray, who preceded her in death Jan. 19, 1969. Survivors include one son, Boyd of Bull Head City, a daughter, Agnes Thiers of Santa Monica, four grandchildren; 10 greatgrandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. One daughter, one grandson and four sisters also preceded her in death.

Mabel Elizabeth Miskell CARBONDALE Mabel Elizabeth Miskell, 81, of Carbondale, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 1984, at home. Mrs.

Miskell was a retired primary school teacher in the Cahokia school system; she retired in 1969 after 14 years of service. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Carbondale and attended Bible class, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Sew-Sew Sewing Club, Thompson Lake Fishing Club and the Old Timers Pinochle Club. She was born Sept. 21, 1903, in Fayetteville, to Samuel and Katie M. Coch Dickson.

She married Clarence Lawrence Miskell May 4, 1923, in Carbondale; he died Aug. 7, 1977. Survivors include three sons, Quentin, of Haines City, Dar-rell, of Tulsa, and Mikell, of Carterville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a nephew, Duer Schiffendecker, of East Alton. Two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death. The funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Paul Stephens METROPOLIS Paul Stephens, 75, of Metropolis, formerly of Murphysboro, died at 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, at home. Mr. Stephens was a retired auditor for the state of Illinois.

He was a member of American Legion Post 127 in Murphysboro. He also was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church. He was born June 3, 1909, in Marion, to Alvin and Mae Stephens. He married Mabel Clark July 3, 1931, in Benton; she preceded him in death June 3, 1974. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Mrs.

Ralph Frazier of Metropolis; two granddaughters, Carsa Stephens, of Lexington, and Theresa Stephens, of Metropolis; and two sisters, Minnie McCree, of Pittsburg, and Mrs. Louis Wilson, of Vienna. One son and three brothers also preceded him in death. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Crawshaw Mortuary Chapel in Murphysboro.

John Oren Hill SESSER Services are pending at the Bray field Funeral Home in Sesser for John Oren Hill, of Sesser, who died Sunday, Dec. 30, 1984, in his home. Police Jackson County Carbondale Stereo equipment valued at $200 was reported stolen in a recent break-in at 705 N. Carico St. Jim Bentibenga told police today his stereo receiver and cassette player were stolen sometime Christmas Day.

TIM WILEY, 20, of West Frankfort, reported to Jackson County authorities the loss Saturday night of under dash stereo equipment from his car parked on the lot at the DuMaroc club north of De Soto. Police said the window on the driver's side was smashed to gain entrance to the car. Randolph County Chester Sandy George, 22, of Oakdale, was held in the Randolph County jail in Chester today on charges of aggravated battery, resisting a police officer, driving under the influence of intoxicants, and failing to reduce speed to avoid an accident, after her arrest this morning by Illinois State Police. STEVEN J. WOLTERS, 20, of Steeleville, was released from the Randolph County jail in Chester on $100 cash bond on charges of battery and criminal trespass to land, after his arrest by Randolph County authorities Saturday.

Franklin County West Frankfort A West Frankfort man was arrested Saturday on six traffic-related charges after he reportedly plowed into four parked cars in downtown Benton while driving under the influence of alcohol. Paul D. Field, 27, of West Frankfort, was also arrested on an outstanding Franklin County warrant for probation violation after being picked up by Benton police offices at 6:20 Saturday evening. Field reportedly struck three parked cars on East Main Street near North Commercial, knocking the vehicles onto the sidewalk.
