Services MICHAEL DANN Tlif MUJHERN Stuart Davis, principal at Christian Fellowship School in Du Quoin, and his wife Patricia won the 'Malls4Schools' contest. The school was awarded $3,500. BY OSAMU TSUKIMORI THE SOUTHERN CARBONDALE Christian Fellowship School in Du Quoin walked away with the $3,500 first prize from the "Malls4Schools" program Saturday. Eight Southern Illinois elementary schools competed for in a $9,000 competition, thanks to the program sponsored by Carbondale's University Mall.

Christian Fellowship School Principal Stuart Davis said students, teachers, parents, grandparents and neighbors all contributed to the big prize. Kindergarteners and students performed at the mall a number of times to score bonus points, he said. "The prize will help definitely," Davis said. "We are the smallest school at 78 students. We'll probably do some work on the playgrounds.

We also needed to do some painting." Davis said his school stayed mostly in the lead throughout the contest. "This is the second time," he said. "First year, we got second place and we bought new tables for the cafeteria. They (St. Bruno School in Pinckneyville) were coming right up on us, but we had actually led through the whole program." The semi-annual competition first started in fall of 2000.

To date, 38 schools have participated and won a total of $45,500 in donations. Schools earned points with the help of shoppers who donated their store receipts between January 26 and May 10 at the mall Customer Service Center. Answer: Astigmatism is created when the distance from the cornea (the clear front window of the eye) to the retina (where images are received) is not the same in all planes.

When the eye is shaped like a basketball, there is usually no astigmatism. However, most eyes are shaped more like a football, and as a result lines running in one direction may be clear while lines in the opposite direction are distorted. The options for correcting astigmatism are spectacles, rigid contact lenses, and most recently, laser vision correction. 618-658-6961 302 Vine Rt. 146 Vienna Across the street from the Integra 1 in umiiiMWii nwwM nm ilfci Mmi smmmm Kies Eye Center 1000 West DeYoung, Marion 618-993-0068 Write, call or email us with questions about your eyes.
