Services will be at 10 am. Saturday at the St Paul United Church of Christ in Pinckneyville, with the Rev. Robert Edwards officiating. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery in Swan wick. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m.

Wednesday, June 27, 2001 at home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 1, 2001, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Makanda Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

COURTS Mail fraud OKAWVILLE The former police chief of Okawville pleaded guilty to mail fraud Wednesday, according to the state's attorney's office. Anthony F. Thompson, 46, served as chief of police of Okawville from April 1999 through February 2001. He was charged with submitting false payroll reports.

Thompson reportedly intercepted paychecks written to former employees, forged their signatures and cashed the checks. He also admitted that he attempted to obstruct the FBI's investigation by trying to get an individual to sign false receipts for the purchase of guns and drugs. Thompson faces up to five years imprisonment or a $250,000 fine, or both. Sentencing is scheduled for Oct 5. Meth charge WILLIAMSON COUNTY A Marion man was sentenced Wednesday in Williamson County Court by Judge Paul Murphy.

Clent E. Long, 27, received 5 years in prison for unlawful possession of chemicals used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. Long was arrested by members of the Southern Illinois Enforcement Group on March 30, 2001, during the execution of search warrant of a home in Marion. Weapons charge MARION An inmate of the maximum security United States Penitentiary in Marion was convicted Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Benton of possessing a weapon in prison, according to the state's attorney's office.

Rodney Allen Dent, 35, was convicted by a jury for one count of weapons possession, relating to a May 1999 incident at the Marion prison. Evidence showed that during a contraband search of inmates bodies, Dent was found to have a 334-inch plastic knife concealed. The search involved the use of X-ray and digital examinations. He faces up to five years imprisonment and a $250,000 fine. His sentence will run consecutively to the one he is now serving, as required by federal law.

Paul Gove MOUNT VERNON Paul Richard Gove, 62, died at 6:27 am. Saturday, June 23, 2001, at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis. Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the chapel at the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens, with the Chaplain of the American Legion Post 141 of Mount Vernon officiating and conducting the military flag presentation service. Per request of Mr.

Gove his remains were cremated and the cremains will be buried in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be after 12:30 p.m. Friday at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and will be accepted at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, who is in charge of arrangements. Doris Marie Gall WILLISVILLE Doris Marie Gall, 71, died at 12:50 p.m.

Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Senior Manor Nursing Center in Sparta Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Wilson's Funeral Home in Campbell Hill, with the Rev. Willis Durbin officiating. Burial will be in the New Hope Gardens in Willisville. Visitation will be after 6 p.m.

She was born on Oct. 22, 1929, in Rice, to John Raymond and Laura Eueline (Piery) Gill. She married Garrison Woodrow Gall on Jan. 10, 1945, in Campbell Hill and he preceded her in death on March 20, 1989. Survivors include four sons, Bobby Gall, Billy Gall Sr.

and Danny Joe Gall, all of Willisville and Gary Gall of Percy; three daughters, Brenda Ebers and Glenda Diane Gall, both of Willisville and Linda Tindall of Chester; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; half-brother, William Winkelman of Steeleville; and one sister, Alice Mitchell of Belleville. Her parents, one son, three grandchildren, one brother and one sister, also preceded her in death. Bernice Laraia CARTERVILLE Bernice Laraia, 75, a former resident of Chicago, died at 1:11 p.m. Sunday, June 24, 2001, at Herrin Hospital. Private graveside services will be at 10 am.

Friday, June 29, at Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville, with the Rev. Manuel Jackson officiating. Ms. Laraia was born on Sept. 21, 1925, in Carterville, to Leo and Zola (Parmly) Beltz.

She was a retired beautician and had owned and operated Coiffure Beauty Salon in Chicago. She enjoyed traveling and watching television. She enjoyed working outdoors. She loved her cat Midnight and she was an avid Elvis Presley fan. Ms.

Laraia is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Dennie Wood of Carrollton, Texas; grandson, Sam Wood of Port Charlotte, Fla; brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Linda Beltz of Carterville; two sisters, Louise Beltz of Herrin and Shirley Desatnik of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Helen McGee MARION Helen P. McGee, 82, died at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2001, in the Paradise Manor of Marion.

Perry County Tony J. Nelson, 21, of 1214 S. Pleasant Hill Road in Carbondale, was arrested in Jackson County at 1:32 p.m. Friday for contempt of court and moved to the Perry County Jail. The Perry County Sheriffs Department gave this account: The contempt charge stems from Nelson's failure to pay $145 out of $200 in fines and costs from 1997 Perry County plea agreement.

In January 1997, Nelson pleaded guilty to unlawful delivery of cannabis. He was sentenced to 38 days in jail and 30 months probation and was ordered to pay the $200 fine', Nelson remains in Perry County Jail. Bond has been set at $2,500. Ramsey Dewey Brock, 22, of 526 N. Walnut, Du Quoin, was' arrested at 11:13 p.m.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran. Mr. Betuski was bom on Dec. 28, 1932, in West Frankfort, to Charles and Madge (Kovalaski) Betuski.

He married Bonnie Sanders on March 31, 1952, in Herrin. She survives of Chester. Other survivors include one son, Richard C. Betuski of Chicago; two daughters, Cindy Betuski of Chester and Melody WTestbrook of Ellis Grove; and six grandchildren. His parents, two brothers and two grandsons preceded him in death.

Frank Legrady JOHNSTON CITY Frank Legrady, 76, died at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2001, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion. Services will be at 10 am. today at the St. Paul's Catholic Church in Johnston City, with Msgr.

Ken Schaefer officiating. Burial will be in the Lakeview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 8:30 am. today at the church. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Marion VFW.

Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnston City is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Legrady retired as a foreman from Diagraph Bradley. He was a coal miner and member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Eag.es. He was a member of the St.

Paul's Catholic Church and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was born on Feb. 5, 1925, in Johnston City, to John and Verona (Palinkas) Legrady.

He married Bernice Fischer on Sept. 8, 1979, in Johnston City and she survives. Other survivors include one nephew, John Legrady of Schaurdburg and his wife, Elizabeth; one niece, Vera Pikulski of Hoffman Estates; and a sister-in-law, Lena Legrady of Elmwood Park, 111. His parents, brother, John and an infant brother preceded him in df ath. Marguerite A.

Doty COBDEN Marguerite A. Doty, 91, of Momence, formerly of Cobden and Carbondale, died Friday, June 22, 2001, at Momence Meadows Nursing Center. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial service will be held at a later date at Cobden Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Fitzpatrick Funeral Directors of Kankakee is in charge of arrangements. Miss Doty was born April 20, 1910, in Vergennes Township, the dauhteF of James and Laura I. Madden Doty. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Norma Lea Stearns of Kankakee; several great-nieces and great- nephews; and one sister, Edith Kelly Ragsdale. Two brothers, Charles Doty and Ross Doty, preceded her in death.

Miss Doty was a school teacher and taught at various schools throughout state from 1945 through 1970. She considered Carbondale her home. Glenn Gurley STONEFORT Glenn Gurley, 73, died on Tuesday. June 26, 2001 at St. Mary's Hospital in St Louis.

Sandford, new owner of the Southern Illinois Cancer Center in Carterville, said things have gone very well since he purchased the business formerly known as Bethesda. "We should do even better once more people find out where we said Sandford. Raised in northern Illinois, Sandford moved west where he attended college and medical school in Seattle, Washington.

He completed his residency training in Philadelphia, and later opened practices in New York City, Boston and Arizona before learning about the Carterville location. A radiation oncologist who treats tumors in patients with a specialty in breast and gastrointestinal malignancy, Sandford also treats lung and brain cancer. "We have some state-of-the art equipment such as a linear accelerator, which produces high energy photons to take a patient's x-ray," said Sandford. Benton police gave this account: Charles R. Schram was arrested at 12:41 after police were called to 809 Joplin St. to quell a domestic dispute. Schram was charged with three counts of domestic battery. He was taken to Franklin County Jail pending a court appearance.

Jesse E. Moore of Benton was arrested Sunday on suspicion olibattery, resisting a police officer and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia Benton police gave this account: Officers were called to 1106 Lickliter because of a domestic disturbance. They found Moore in an argument with his estranged wife. The victim, Jacqueline Patterson, told police that Moore struck her in the head when she attempted to remove a child from the scene. Moore became combative with officers and had to be restrained.

He was taken to Franklin County Jail. Tyson Richard Hungate, 21, of Benton, was arrested Saturday and charged with public indecency. Benton police gave this account: Patrons and employees of the Benton Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant on West Main Street saw Hungate exposing himself and reported him to the police. Hungate was arrested at 9:41 p.m. and taken to Franklin County Jail.

A residential burglary was reported as having occurred between 3:15 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday in Pierce Hall on the SIUC campus. Clothing was reported stolen from the residence. John Rutherford, 20, of Carbondale, was taken into custody June 19 and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting or obstructing a peace officer after an incident in Lawson Hall on the SIUC campus.

Rutherford was taken to Jackson County Jail. Murphysboro A Murphysboro couple received injuries in a two-vehicle accident Wednesday morning at the intersection of Pine and 21st streets in Murphysboro.
