A car driven by Carol M. Smith, 27, Steeleville, ran off the right side of the road, then came back across the center line into the path of a pickup truck operated by James D. Harnagle, 32, Tilden, state po lice reported. Both drivers received minor injuries, police said. Also hurt were two passengers in the Smith car, Bryan A.

Smith, 4, and Lorene Ward, 32, of Steele ville. Shelley Esher, 18, and Earl Miller, 16, both of Chester, were hurt in an accident on Rt. 150, three miles east of Chester, at 3 p.m. Gary W. Reed, 18, Benton, received minor injuries when his car overturned cn rainslick-ed Rt.

37, three miles north of Benton, police reported. Two SIU Students Hurt in Accident Two Southern Illinois Univer sity students were injured in a traffic accident Tuesday on West Main Street in Carbondale. Admitted to University Health Service for treatment of injuries was Lola M. Townsend, 21, driv er of one of the cars. on her condition was not available from the Health Service.

A passenger, Lynn Warren, 19, was treated at the Health Ser vice and released. Loaded mm. wx A i Eugene Theel. 25, Gilbert Mitchell, 20, and Linda J. Mitchell, 21, all of rural Carbondale, were arraigned Wednesday in circuit court, Marion, on charges of illegal possession of narcotic drugs.

The three were arrested Monday night in an apartment at the Triple Lake Heights Subdivision, three miles southeast of the Crab Orchard Lake spillway. Bond for Theel was set at $50,000 and the Mitchells, at $10,000 each. The Mitchells posted bond and were released about 7 p.m. Wed nesday from the county jail. Mrs.

Mitchell became ill in the courtroom during the arraignment. She was taken to Marion Memorial Hospital for treatment, then released. A hearing for Theel was con tinued to Tuesday to allow him to secure counsel. The Mitchells asked for a preliminary hearing, and one is scheduled for Oct. 8.

Charges against the three car ry a penalty of from $5,000 in fines to 10 years in prison, according to States Atty. Kenneth Powless. About 50 pounds of marijuana was confiscated when a Williamson County Sheriff's deputy and a Marion City policeman went to the apartment to arrest Theel on a bench warrant. SERVICES FRIDAY FOR ELLIS GROVE WOMAN Mrs. Ethel McCloud Granne- man, 72, of Ellis Grove, died Wednesday in Memorial Hcspi tal at Chester. Bern Feb. 4, 1893 in Houston, she was the daughter of George and Mary Elizabeth Bums Lyons. She was married Aug.

13, 1920, to James Stipe, in Belleville. He is dead. On Dec. 20, 1957, she was married to Ferd Grannecnan, in Belleville. He died on July 15, 1963.

Mrs. Grarmeman was a member of the new Palestine Methodist Church near Chester. Survivors include sons, James R. Stipe of Chester and John L. Stipe of Plattsrnouth, a brother.

Russell' Lvons of Boulder, sisters, Mrs. Grace Henderson of Carbondale and Mrs. Ernie Fichtel of Murphysboro; and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Schore-der Funeral Chapel in Chester.

The Rev. Ellis Davis will officiate, with burial in the New Palestine Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6:30 p.m. today. RALPH CUNITZ, Ralph Cunitz, 60, of Christopher, died at 2:40 p.m.

Wednesday in the Veterans Administration Hospital, Marion. He had been ill several years. air. Cunitz was born Nov. 11, 1909 in Six Mile Township, Franklin County, the son of George and Olevia Heberer Cunitz.

He was a retired coa miner and last worked at Orient No. 3 near Walton ville. He was a member of the Unit ed Mine Workers of America the St. Andrew Catholic Church of Christopher and the Ameri can Legion in Christopher. He is survived by his wife Daisy; a daughter, Mrs.

Sarah Clinton of Christopher; sons Fred of Louisville, George of Taylorville and Charles Christopher; eight grandchild ren and a brother Roger, Mansfield, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Moel ler Funeral Home. Royalton with the Rev. Angelo Lombardo officiating.

Burial will be in Osage Cemetery west of Royal ton. Friends may call at the fu neral home after 6 p.m. today. ROBERT COCKRUM DIES IN BENTON Robert Cockrum, 56, of Rt. 2, Benton, died at 5 p.m.

Wed nesday Franklin Hospital, Benton. He had been ill severa weeks. Mr. Cockrum was born Aug. 15, 1914, in Benton, the son of Frank and Jenny Ligon Cock rum.

He was a truck driver for Peyton Concrete Co. of Ben ton for 23 years and a member of Teamsters Union Local 347. He is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, William Robert Cockrum of Benton and Curtis and Kenneth Cockrum, both at home; daughters, Mrs. Betty Webb and Mrs. Iinda Davis, both of Benton and Kathy Cock rum at home; and three grand children- Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m.

JARRETT G. HALL RITES SATURDAY Jarrett G. Hall, 96, of Akin, died at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Franklin Hospital Benton. He had been ill one year.

Mr. Hall was born Oct. 20, 1873, the son of Sebern and Lavina Smith Hall. His wife, the former Caroline Eldridge, died in 1963. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Akin.

He is survived by daughters, Mrs- Sarah Frye and Mrs. Ethel Overturf, both of Akm and Mrs, Helen Spencer of Elgm; a son, Willard of Champaign; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hobbs-Johnson Funeral Home, Benton. Burial will be in Brady Cemetery, east of Akin.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Friday. SERVICES SET FOR MRS. ALTHEA CARR Funeral services for Mrs. Althea Edith Carr, 84, of Rt.

The body is to be moved Friday to Hankins- Whittington Funeral Heme in Charlotte. MRS. DOLLIE GENTRY DIES IN HERRIN Mrs. Dollie Gentry, 86, of 1016 W. Oak Herrin, died at 11:15 a.m.

Wednesday at Hamp ton's Nursing Home, Herrin, fol lowing a lengthy illness. Mrs. Gentry was a member of the United Methodist Church of Energy- Born Dec. 15, 1883, at Tusca loosa, she was the daugh ter of Alonzo and Emma Fowler Bingham. She was married to William Lewis Gentry Aug.

28, 1900, at Blockton, Ala. Mr. Gen try died Dec. 26, 1936. She leaves sons, Percy of En crgy and Roy, John and Pete, all of Herrm; 23 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Mrs. Katherine Kelly, and sons, Thomas, Char les and Edward, preceded her in death. Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson's Fu neral Home, Herrm. The Rev.

Commodore Grove and the Rev. Robert Miller will officiate. Bur ial will be in Hillcrest Ceme tery, Carterville. Friends may call at the fu neral home. OREL SHORT RITES SATURDAY Funeral services for Orel Lester Short of 104 N.

Main Anna, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Wilson Funeral Home, Marion. Mr. Short died Tuesday in Doctors Hospital in Carbondale. He was 56.

Mr. Short was employed as a clothing service aide. Survivors include sisters, Mrs-Ruby Baker of Rt. 2, Marion, and Maxine Hudgens of Victor- ville, and brothers, Ray mond and James E. Short, both of Marion.

Two sisters and a brother pro-ceded him in death. His parents were James C. and Rosetta Ad-kins Short. The Rev. C.

R. Walker will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Cana Cemetery, Gore-ville. Friends may call after 2 p.m. today or Friday at the funeral home.

SERVICES FRIDAY FOR MRS. GRACE MOORE Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Moore, 71, of 233 N. 13th Murphysboro, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Meyer-Denny Funeral Home, Murphysboro.

The Rev. Merris M. Dice will officiate, with burial in Pleasant Grove Memorial Cemetery, Murphysboro. Mrs. Moore died Tuesday at St.

Joseph Memorial Hospital, Murphysboro. Born Feb. 22, 1899, in Cutler, she was the daughter of Samuel and Maggie Higgerson Cottom. She was married June 11, 1920, to Fred Moore. He died in 1964.

Mrs. Moore was a member of the First Baptist Church, Murphysboro. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Dawson of Burling ton, Iowa; a sister, Mrs. Clara Will of Murphysboro; and three grandchildren.

SERVICES SATURDAY FOR VALADA POPEJOY Mrs. Valada Popejoy, 59, of Cutler, died Wednesday in Pin ckneyville Community Hospital. She was born Sept. 10, 1911, in Kansas, the daughter of Willis and Mathilda Bankert Beckham. She was married in 1935 in Ben ton to Rollie Popejoy.

Survivors include her husband and a daugher. Mrs. Marie Rednour of Cutler-Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the First Baptist Church in Cutler, with burial in Cutler Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lynn-Hill Funeral Home in Cutler after noon Friday.

Clark West Frankfort, died at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in Her rin Hospital. He had been ill several weeks. Ir. Martin was born Nov.

24, 1912 in West Frankfort, the sen of Henry and Emma Graul Martin. He owned Martin Cleaners in West Frankfort; was a deacon at the Second Baptist Church of West Frankfort; was a mem ber and past president of the West Frankfort Rotary Club, the Scottish Rites of East St. Louis and the West Frankfort Masonic Lodge No. 567; and was a veter an of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite; a daughter, Mrs.

Kay Emmerson of Carbondale; a son, Jerry of Potosi, two grandchildren; brothers, Harry of Benton and Joe of Mt. Vernon; sisters, Mrs. Vir ginia Grizzell of Evansville, Mrs. Hallie Davis of West Frankfort and Mrs. Helen Ham ilton of Fergusan, Mo.

Mr. Kraft, 85, died early today in Union County Nursing Home at Anna. He was born Jan. 15, 1885, in Valmeyer to the late Jacob and Louisa Laub Kraft. He was a retired farmer- He was marri ed Dec.

23, 1908, to Carrie Cripps in St. Louis, Mo. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Mrs. Ada Ellet; son, Claude Kraft, all of Grand Tower, six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m.

Murphysboro Man Faces Charges A 27-year-old Murphysboro man has been charged with attempted burglary of Baril Shell Service, 14th and Walnut street, Murphysboro. Police identified the man as Kenneth Bramlett, of Rt. 3, A man was seen in the shadow of the station by two city policemen.

They found Bramlett, his wrist was bleeding, according to police. A window in the west dor of the station was broken, and there was blood cn some of the shattered glass, police said. Willie James, 26, and Sylvester Moore, 30, both of Xorth Marion street, were charged with armed robbery and ag gravated battery July 17. They were charged with rob bing and assaulting George Bennett in Carbondale, allegedly taking $12 from Bennett and stabbing him- The charge of armed robbery was dismissed. Sentencing was set for Sept. 29, following a pre-sentencing investigation.

Marion Youths Held In Break-Ins Edward Hart, 17. and Ralph L. Jennings, 19, of Marion were being held in Williamson County jail this morning in cosnection with two break-ins discovered early today in Marion.
