Carol Poteete CRAINVILLE Carol in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m.Thursday, Feb.18,2010, in Crainville Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Epperly officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Carterville. Visitation will begin after 5 p.m.today at Riggin- Pillatsch and Burke Funeral Home in Carterville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crainville Baptist Marion 62918. Envelopes will also be available at the funeral home. Crack was born May 18, Carl Ruby (Emery) Poteete. He married Ruth Ann Chamness on April 4,1957, in Carterville. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Poteete of Crainville; two daughters and a Poteete of De Soto and Lyn and Randall Bain of Herrin; a Bain of Herrin; three sisters and a Carney of Claunch of New Athens and June and Dale Horsley of a brother, Donald Poteete of a sister-in-law and brother- Lou and Hobart Brown of Cambria; two nieces and their and Dan Cross of Belle Rive and Shelly and Harry Collins of Carterville; a nephew and his spouse, David and Anita Brown of Cambria; three Collins and Adrian Brown; and four great- Collins and Marshall Brown.

Crack was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law and father-in- and Woodrow Chamness; and two Carney and Jack Claunch. He retired in 1995 after 25 years of service as a cable splicer for GTE. He was very active in Crainville Baptist Church, where he served as deacon, and janitor for more than 30 years. Crack was a family and home-oriented man.He enjoyed working on his yard and cleaning his vehicles, making sure they were immaculately maintained. He also served as a coach for both of his softball teams.Crack was known for his ability to coach winning teams.

Tom was born Oct.24, the son of the late Thomas Joy Pentecost and Mary Rupp Pentecost. from the United States Marine Corps after 25 years of service.Tom received a Silver Star with Combat and two Purple Hearts.He served in the Korean conflict and two tours in Vietnam. His hobbies included collecting and fish- ing.He attended Village Baptist Church and was an active member of Marine Corps Coast Detachment 915.He was past president of Santa Rosa Beach Golf Club.His family remembers him as a loving grandfather and great- grandfather.He was a hero. Preceding him in death are his parents; and his wife of 59 Jean Pentecost. She married Loren Louis McPhail in August 1933 in Murphys- boro.He preceded her in death May 6,1990. She is survived by a Lane Jackson of Carterville; a son and Wayne and his significant Royalton; two grandsons and their wives, Shane and Vickie McPhail of Zeigler and Shawn and Tammie McPhail of Royalton; a stepgrandson and his and Donna Lowe of San a Tindale of Royalton; four and Nick McPhail of Zeigler and Sheldon and Sophia McPhail of Royalton; step- Lowe of San April Watson and her Tomball, Texas; a stepgreat-great- Watson of two brothers and a sister-in-law, J.Richard Fiss and Wilburt and Dockie of Royalton.
